The New Summer Student!

Hi, I’m Alina Helmer, I am eighteen years old and have recently graduated from the Lacombe Composite High School. I will be the student Museum Assistant here at the Michener House Museum and Archives for the summer.

It was 1998, and I was six years old the first time I came into the Michener House. One night in December my mum and I were coming back from dance class, when we saw a corral of Reindeer in the parking lot of Kavaccino’s. Curious and confused, the two of us wandered into the museum. I still remember walking into the front door and seeing both the living room, and kitchen area full of happy people drinking hot chocolate, eating homemade Christmas cookies, and singing Christmas Carols.
Ever since then, my family has brought guests from all over the world to visit the Michener House Museum, and it is always a great pleasure coming back to see both new, and old things. Within the next two months, I will be helping with several projects for the museum, and giving tours to anyone who stops by. Come by anytime, we’re open seven days a week!

A beautiful donation!

It was dreary and rainy in Lacombe today, but the smiles of Al and Jennie Machacek visiting from their hometown, Lethbridge, made the museum a brighter place. Jennie donated to the museum her 126th crocheted rag rug, which will be displayed upstairs beside the Michener bed. Thank you Jennie and Al for the wonderful visit!

There's quite a bit of information available on the web about making crocheted rag rugs. There is a variety of cloth materials that can be used to make up the rug as well. The donated rug was made from bed sheets that were found at garage sales. It is truly a piece of practical art!
