On Tuesday May 8th
from 6:30 to 8:30pm, The Lacombe & District Historical Society
hosted an opening reception for their 2012 Spring-Summer Exhibit Series at the
Flatiron Museum & Interpretive Centre.

The opening reception featured talks about the Museums’ current exhibits:
- The Girl Guides Through Time
- Celebrating 110 years of History: The Lacombe Police Service
- A History of Dairy Farming in Lacombe
These new exhibits were organized by the Lacombe & District
Historical Society in conjunction with the Lacombe Public Library’s Award
Winning History Lecture Series hosted at the Lacombe Memorial Centre and are
the product of growing collaborations between the society and various organizations
in the community.

The opening reception’s program included speeches by Marie
Péron, Executive Director of the Lacombe & District Historical Society, Mr.
Steve Christie, Mayor for the City of Lacombe, Mrs. Joan Fredeen, former Girl
Guide Leader and Volunteer, Mrs. Anna Robertson, current Girl Guide Leader and
Volunteer, Mr. Gary Wm. Leslie, Chief of Police for the Lacombe Police Service,
and Mr. Lawrence Henderson, former owner and operator of the Henderson Dairy
Farm in Lacombe.

The evening event was attended by approximately 50 people including Mr. Rod
Fox, MLA Lacombe-Ponoka, Mrs. Paula Law, Deputy Reeve for the County of
Lacombe, Mr. Orest Schur, former Chief of the Lacombe Police Service, Mr. Gus
Jautz, retired member of the Lacombe Police Service, and Mr. Fred Dobirstein,
former deputy Chief for the Lacombe Police Service, and representatives from
the Markerville Creamery Museum.
Attendees enjoyed a wine tasting hosted by Chateau Wines
& Spirits from Lacombe and a live musical performance by local singer and
songwriter Justine Vandergrift.
The Lacombe & District Historical Society thanks all of its
